A CoinGecko report published on December 24, 2024 noted that, in 2025, RWA posted an average return of 185.8%, the highest among all narratives. Kita Network surged 1,794.9%, Zebec Network 217.3%, and Maple Finance 123.0%, lifting the overall returns. However, 2025 gains did not reach the 819.5% recorded in 2024. Layer 1 rose an average of 80.3%, the second-highest performer.
RWA and Layer 1 were the only narratives to post year-over-year gains for two consecutive years. The Made in USA category rose 30.6% on average, the third-best performer, with privacy coins driving much of the increase. By contrast, meme coins and AI narratives declined, down 31.6% and 50.2%, while major meme coins fell 44.6% to 82.5% and most AI tokens dropped 49.8% to 84.3%. DeFi declined 34.8% and decentralized exchanges 55.5%, while the Solana ecosystem averaged a 64.2% drop, with only JLP edging higher.
