Bitcoin has been one of the top-performing assets in the world over the past decade and could reach $1 million by 2030. From August 2017 to November 2025, Bitcoin delivered a CAGR of 44%. From 2012 to 2024, Bitcoin was the top-performing asset in the world in 10 of 12 years, including several years with triple-digit returns. Its value has surged from about $100 in 2013 to nearly $90,000 today, and a downturn this year of around 8% is not unusual, with history suggesting a recovery toward a new all-time high.

Ethereum is the other cryptocurrency with a stellar track record dating back more than a decade. From August 2017 to November 2025, Ethereum posted a CAGR of 29%. Since its launch in July 2015, Ethereum has risen to an all-time high near $5,000 earlier this year. Its diverse ecosystem, spanning blockchain gaming and DeFi, underpins its appeal, and Ethereum commands about 64% of DeFi’s market share.

Together, Bitcoin and Ethereum account for roughly 70% of the total value of the crypto market, underscoring their market influence. Both assets remain volatile, with notable declines such as 68% for Ethereum in 2022 and 82% in 2018. For investors seeking crypto exposure in 2026, these two winners are frequently cited as must-adds for diversified portfolios.
