Stablecoin trading volume surged to a record $33 trillion last year, according to Artemis Analytics, as reported by Bloomberg. USDC accounted for $18.3 trillion in trades, leading the market, while USDT followed with $13.3 trillion.

Bloomberg noted that USDC was heavily traded on DeFi platforms, while USDT was used mainly for everyday payments, business transactions, and as a store of value. Market data show the overall volume rose 72% year over year.

Circle’s Chief Strategy Officer Dante Disparte attributed USDC’s popularity to its regulatory credibility and deep liquidity. This combination is cited as a key driver for users selecting USDC over other stablecoins. USDT currently holds a larger market cap, about $187 billion, roughly 2.5 times that of USDC.
