Tether froze roughly $182 million worth of USDT on Sunday on the Tron network, blocking funds across five addresses. On-chain data shows the wallets held roughly $12 million to $50 million each, making the action one of the largest single-day enforcement moves on Tron to date. Tether said the freeze was carried out in response to a formal law enforcement request tied to an investigation that has been underway for months.
The move also stands out for surpassing Circle’s total historical USDC freezes in a single action. The company has increasingly taken a proactive role in compliance, using centralized control to restrict wallets linked to suspected illicit activity or sanctions violations.
