DZ Bank secured MiCAR authorization from BaFin to operate a cryptocurrency trading service via its meinKrypto platform. The license was issued by the end of December 2025, enabling the lender to provide crypto trading to first-tier cooperative banks and, in due course, to individual customers through their banks.

As part of the rollout, Volksbank and Raiffeisenbank, among other cooperative banks, will need to file BaFin MiCAR notifications to access meinKrypto. Once notifications are in place and the system goes live, customers will be able to invest in cryptocurrencies in a fully remote manner.

MeinKrypto is a wallet-like service integrated into the VR banking app, designed as a self-directed product with no financial advisory component. Initial assets available include Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin and Cardano, with custody handled by Boerse Stuttgart Digital and trading through EUWAX AG. The platform was developed jointly by Atruvia and DZ Bank.
