Coinbase Chief Executive Brian Armstrong has rejected claims that the White House threatened to withdraw support for the CLARITY Act. In a post addressing a journalist, Armstrong said that assertion was not true and emphasized that the White House has been constructive and engaged on the bill.
Armstrong also stated that the White House asked Coinbase to work out a deal with the banks and that negotiations with banks are ongoing. He added that Coinbase is developing policy ideas related to the bill, including proposals intended to assist community banks.
Coinbase Chief Legal Officer Paul Grewal commented on X that the White House has been transparent and that Coinbase is optimistic about the engagement, stressing retail protections as a priority. Armstrong reiterated that the claims were inaccurate, underscoring the administration’s continued involvement in the CLARITY Act discourse.
