Teranode’s new node software, developed by the BSV Association, adheres to the original Bitcoin protocol and proponents say it could be a game changer for global blockchain scaling. Siggi Óskarsson, Director of Teranode, notes that Multicast can reduce duplicated traffic and enable far more nodes to consume the same data stream.
Multicast is a one-to-many transmission method that, in theory, enhances data dissemination without the bandwidth explosion seen with unicast fan-out. Yet real-world deployment remains constrained because backbone networks and major cloud providers rarely offer end-to-end, routable multicast as a standard service.
Industry observers also point to alternative approaches—CDN-style distribution, relay meshes, application-layer fan-out, and overlay networks—but each comes with trade-offs in cost and complexity. The ongoing challenge is balancing efficiency, practicality, and economics while the ecosystem lags on widespread multicast adoption.
