Solana gains institutional traction amid broader market pressure. Two February 5 announcements highlight a growing trend: corporations and financial institutions are increasingly leveraging Solana’s technology for treasury management and the tokenization of securities. In a significant move, U.S. medical technology firm Sharps Technology (NASDAQ: STSS) announced it will manage its corporate treasury using the Solana blockchain. The company is partnering with BitGo Bank & Trust, a regulated provider of cryptocurrency custody and institutional services.
This collaboration is designed to offer a consolidated platform for institutional digital asset management. Key components include the regulated custody of SOL tokens, staking to generate network yields, and over-the-counter (OTC) trading services for executing large transactions. The initiative aims to create a more secure and scalable framework for treasury management—a model that could appeal to other publicly traded companies looking to modernize their financial operations. Parallel developments are unfolding in South Korea.
DB Financial Investment has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Solana Foundation, dated January 6th, to advance the tokenization of traditional securities. The partnership focuses on building a digital capital market through Security Token Offerings (STOs). The agreement involves technically linking existing securities systems to the Solana blockchain and jointly identifying suitable assets for tokenization. DB Financial Investment plans to reveal further details about its business model at the Solana Accelerate APAC event in Hong Kong on February 11th.
These announcements coincide with broader infrastructure growth on the Solana network. Also on February 5th, Multiliquid and Metalayer Ventures launched an institutional liquidity facility specifically for tokenized real-world assets (RWAs). This facility is intended to provide instant redemptions, addressing a major hurdle that has traditionally limited institutional investment in this asset class. Market observers are now watching to see if other corporations will follow Sharps Technology’s lead by incorporating SOL into their treasury management strategies.
