World Liberty Financial (WLFI) has announced a project to tokenize the loan revenues from the Trump International Hotel & Resort in the Maldives, in collaboration with property developer DarGlobal and asset-tokenization platform Securitize. Eric Trump, WLFI co-founder, described the deal as a turning point in real estate finance and said it marks the first case in a broader plan to move diverse real assets on-chain. The project was announced on February 18. The partners will issue a securitized token representing the income from the Maldives resort loan, with Securitize noted as a leading platform that has previously tokenized various real-world asset products for funds such as BlackRock’s BUIDL.
The initial token is designed for Accredited Investors, offering a fixed share of loan revenues with potential upside from future asset sales; the issuer plans to publish the token on a public blockchain and may use it as collateral on WLFI’s platform. The Maldives project is described as WLFI’s flagship initiative and part of a broader strategy to connect real estate with on-chain finance, with more assets to follow if successful. If the project proves successful, observers say it could accelerate the tokenization of hotels, commercial real estate, and brand assets.
Data from the RWAxyz shows that as of February 19, the on-chain value of real-world asset tokens stood at $248 billion, up 11% in a month, with holders rising by over 30%. USD1, a dollar-pegged stablecoin, has surged to about $51 billion in circulation, making it the fifth-largest stablecoin by market cap. If successful, the Maldives project could accelerate tokenization across hotels, commercial real estate, and even brand assets, reinforcing WLFI’s long-term strategy to connect real assets with on-chain finance. The Maldives resort is WLFI’s flagship project, planned to open in 2030 with approximately 100 villas, including beach and overwater accommodations, and integrating the initial loan-revenue tokenization into the broader real estate-development framework.
