Nine Democratic senators have sent a letter to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Attorney General Pam Bondi, requesting federal investigations into Binance’s illicit finance activities in light of recent reporting. The move follows a series of disclosures about potential violations and aims to prompt federal scrutiny of the exchange’s operations.
The Friday letter was signed by five senators, including Elizabeth Warren, Rubén Gallego, Angela Alsobrooks, and Mark Warner, and requests information on whether Binance complied with the 2023 settlement. The attorneys further pressed for details on the company’s ongoing compliance efforts.
That latest Democratic push followed remarks by Connecticut Democrat Richard Blumenthal, a senior member of the Senate Homeland Security Committee, who announced the Binance probe and drafted the information-request letter. Lawmakers also noted potential links to a Trump-backed crypto venture World Liberty Financial and cited past regulatory issues, including Zhao’s alleged dealings and his reported four-month prison term related to AML and KYC matters.
