Playful Studios has launched $THOU, a governance token for the Thousands Network, marking a dual-token approach alongside the existing $WC token. This initiative is outlined in Wildpaper 4.0, distinguishing $THOU from $WC, which continues to support economic transactions within the Wildcard game. The $WC token remains pivotal for in-game transactions and overall ecosystem interaction in Wildcard, while $THOU is set to enhance governance by empowering the network’s community of builders and users rather than external investors or the developers themselves. While specifics such as total supply and distribution strategies of $THOU are still undisclosed, it’s known that the token will be based on the Ethereum platform and its allocation heavily tied to the Thousands XP reward system.
The Thousands XP system integrates into the Wildcard experience, offering users various ways to earn rewards. Activities such as managing a Franchise, creating Summon Contracts, sponsoring a House, participating in official tournaments, and streaming can all accumulate XP. This system ensures that contributions directly correlate to rewards, fostering more active engagement within the network.
Notable revenue per viewer statistics and significant in-app purchases during live events have highlighted the commercial potential of both the Wildcard game and the broader Thousands Network. Wildcard, developed by Playful Studios under CEO Paul Bettner, is a free-to-play action MOBA for PC, currently in early access on Steam and progressively integrating into the Thousands Network, with plans for full on-chain functionality by 2026. As the WC token migrates to the Arbitrum network for improved scalability, THOU’s incorporation on Ethereum is set to complement this expansion, promising enhanced governance and broader integration into additional games and intellectual properties.
