Online fraudsters swindled a cryptocurrency holder out of €107,000 after tricking them into downloading an application under the pretext of a video interview. According to police, the complaint has been filed with the Criminal Investigation Department at police headquarters and concerns funds stolen through a fake job advertisement posted on social media. Police said the victim responded on March 12 to a job listing for a company advertised on a social media platform. The perpetrators instructed the victim to download a specific application onto their computer, claiming it was required for the video interview.
After installing the application, the victim discovered that their cryptocurrency wallets had been compromised, with assets worth €107,000 stolen. Authorities are investigating whether malicious software was installed through the app, enabling the suspects to access the victim’s electronic wallets and carry out the theft.
