Investigators tracking the Drift hack have traced the stolen funds to Backpack accounts, indicating that KYC information could help identify the perpetrators. According to on-chain analyst aryan, the attacker’s address, funded initially through NEAR Intents, lay dormant until a substantial transfer from the Drift treasury occurred. From there, the funds were dispersed to multiple laundering addresses, all routed through Backpack, which is believed to have performed KYC checks.

Those addresses later moved the assets to an Ethereum address via Wormhole, a bridge previously associated with Tornado Cash. The involvement of Backpack accounts, which are subject to KYC verification, could be crucial in identifying the perpetrators behind the hack. This alignment underscores KYC-verified Backpack activity as a potential trail to identify those responsible. As investigators continue to trace the chain of transfers, the connection between Drift funds, Backpack wallets, and Wormhole may inform enforcement and attribution efforts in future crypto hacks.
