In February 2025, the Ethereum Foundation named Tomasz Stańczak and Hsiao-Wei Wang to guide its next phase. Wang, a seven-year EF veteran and core researcher, has contributed across multiple protocol upgrade paths, while Stańczak comes from outside the Foundation, having built one of Ethereum’s major software client teams, Nethermind. Together, their appointment signals a hybrid leadership strategy as Ethereum shifts from an early-stage experiment to global-scale infrastructure.

The Ethereum ecosystem underwent a revival in 2025, with many major cryptocurrencies rallying to new all-time highs while Ether lagged behind early in the year. As of publication, Ether traded around $2,806 after peaking much higher in August.

Stańczak has hosted open community calls to solicit input on the network’s direction, and the Ethereum Foundation has rolled out updated roadmaps outlining approaches to privacy, security and the emerging role of AI. Stańczak noted to CoinDesk that beyond meetings with developers, he has also sought engagement with traditional institutions as tokenization and ETFs drew new interest into the ecosystem. Stańczak recognizes that this year has been a key turning point for Ethereum, and the appointment of these two new leaders marks the beginning of a new chapter for the ecosystem.
