The U.S. Marshals Service is investigating allegations that more than $40 million in cryptocurrency seized by authorities was stolen from a government wallet by a federal contractor’s son. Blockchain investigator ZachXBT identified John “Lick” Daghita, son of CMDSS president Dean Daghita, as the suspect and traced at least $23 million of related funds to the 2024–2025 seizures totaling about $90 million. The case raises fresh concerns about the custody of government-held crypto assets.
CMDSS, led by Dean Daghita, is described as providing services to the DoD and DOJ, and the company reportedly manages a cryptocurrency wallet containing seized digital assets. ZachXBT confirmed John Daghita and alleged CMDSS currently holds federal IT contracts, underscoring ongoing questions about oversight of government crypto assets. The investigator noted additional claims, including a transfer of 0.6767 ETH, which he said would be sent to the government’s seized-address.
