A six-person gang has been arrested in France after abducting a sitting judge and demanding payment in cryptocurrency. The assailants reportedly sent photos of the victims to the judge’s spouse and threatened to harm them if the ransom was not paid. The victims were found earlier in a garage in the Drome department in southeastern France, injured and restrained, and no ransom payment was ever made.
Authorities say the group consisted of six individuals. Some were apprehended while attempting to board a bus to Spain, and the remainder, including minors, were subsequently detained as the investigation continued.
In related context, January of last year saw another incident in France where a cryptocurrency company co-founder and his wife were abducted; the attackers reportedly sent photos of a finger to the company and demanded a large ransom.
