Busan Digital Asset Exchange (BDAN) announced on March 25 at its Busan headquarters that it signed a memorandum of understanding with Dong-A University’s Global Financial Research Institute to advance digital assets and digital finance. The agreement aims to go beyond mere technology exchange and establish a Busan-specific standard to address the rapidly expanding global real-world asset (RWA) market, with a focus on digitizing Busan’s port, shipping, rail, and logistics infrastructure.
BDAN, an RWA exchange with 1.23 million cumulative users, seeks to deepen the market’s qualitative robustness to match its growth through the collaboration. Dong-A University’s Global Financial Research Institute, founded in 2015, has long pursued financial policy research and talent development; the partnership is expected to enhance the reliability and sophistication of valuation models in the digital asset market.
The two institutions plan to jointly pursue digital asset development and evaluation research, host regular seminars, and cultivate practical talent. BDAN Chief Executive Kim Sang-min said that ongoing research and collaboration are essential as the global digital finance paradigm evolves, and the partnership will strengthen market trust and professionalism to set a new standard for digital assets. Jo Yong-bok, director of the institute, added that combining academic research with industry practice will yield tangible results and create a virtuous cycle linking academia and business.
The collaboration is expanding with regional universities to build a broader digital finance ecosystem, signaling Busan’s ambition to become a genuine hub for digital asset trading and research. The move underscores Busan’s effort to move beyond the label of financial center toward a living ecosystem for digital assets. The initiative follows existing ties with regional universities including Busan University, Pukyong University, Kyungsung University, Dongseo University, and Busan Foreign Language University to foster a robust digital finance ecosystem.
