Japan is taking steps to recognize cryptocurrency as a formal asset within the regulatory framework. On April 11, a crypto news outlet YouToday reported that MetaPlanet CEO Simon Georovich said the cabinet had approved the amendment to the Financial Instruments and Exchange Act. The move would officially classify crypto assets as financial products under the revised law.

Georovich noted that regulations becoming clearer and the regulated growth of the crypto industry could lead markets to be evaluated as assets with strong fundamentals, transparency, and long-term viability. He emphasized that Bitcoin operates on transparency and verifiability with no central issuer, and that institutions integrating digital assets into the system could cause Bitcoin’s value to shine. He projected that regulatory clarity could expand Bitcoin adoption. In this environment, how Japan leverages its regulatory reforms could influence its competitive position in global finance.

MetaPlanet said it would push a Bitcoin-centered strategy in Japan. Georovich added that the company already maintains the transparency expected of a public company and will use the new regulatory environment to expand crypto activities and sharpen its Bitcoin-centric capital strategy.
