The Argentine Securities Commission (CNV) has decided that cryptocurrencies can count toward an individual’s net assets for accredited-investor qualification. The measure would enable investors to meet an asset threshold of about $478,000 and access the domestic accredited-investor category, per CNV Resolution 1125/2026. The resolution defines virtual assets as digital representations that can be traded and transferred, and used for payments or investments, including cryptocurrencies, tokenized assets, and even stablecoins.

The CNV notes that as new asset classes such as virtual assets become increasingly integrated into investment portfolios, including them can serve as evidence of an investor’s financial capacity and experience. Previously, crypto holdings alone did not count toward the required asset level, which was around $479,000. The move aims to open and democratize the market to a newer audience focused on digital alternatives such as staking and DeFi.

Argentina is progressing in this field, but the central bank issued a 2022 directive to mitigate risks to users and the financial system, restricting banks from offering crypto services. President Milei is expected to lift the 2022 banking ban soon, further expanding crypto adoption.
