Hashed Open Finance, the Hashed group’s subsidiary, was launched to commercialize stablecoins, real-world asset tokenization (RWA), and tokenized securities (STO). This year it unveiled MARU, a blockchain specialized for won-denominated stablecoins, with plans to offer a payments-focused chain for domestic financial institutions.
Earlier this year, STO legalization and a provisional license for an STO over-the-counter venue were issued, and currently the National Assembly is actively discussing the Digital Assets Basic Act, which would regulate won-denominated stablecoins and digital asset operators. Beyond STOs, projects tokenizing a broad range of assets, including RWA, onto the blockchain are emerging, and won-denominated stablecoins are expected to serve as payment instruments across these tokenized securities as well as various use cases, potentially reshaping the market and industry landscape. We invite JPYC’s Noritaka Okabe and Hana Bank’s Tae-sung Eom to gauge the won-stablecoin’s prospects.
