Tensions between the United States and Iran over the potential closure of the Hormuz Strait have kept the digital asset derivatives market mixed. However, on major altcoins, whale funds on exchanges have consistently taken defensive positions, lending a cautious mood to the market. According to CoinGlass on the 13th, the four-hour taker buy versus sell ratio stood at 50.83% shorts and 49.17% longs. Notional volumes were $28.5B in longs and $29.4B in shorts, indicating a slight tilt toward downside bets. However, the gap is not wide enough to confirm a clear direction, suggesting an uncertain, exploratory range.

Bitcoin has declined by around 1% in the past 24 hours, trading in the low-$70k range. Across major exchanges, retail long exposure is modestly above shorts, but whale and smart-money indicators diverge across venues, preventing a market-wide consensus. Some exchanges signal ‘very strong’ momentum, while others classify it as bearish, underscoring short-term strategy divergence. Overall, the market remains cautious with mixed signals.

Ethereum shows price weakness alongside defensive whale positioning. On some venues, retail-long exposure persists, but institutional money is not following suit. Solana likewise shows a gap between retail longs and whale shorts, underscoring a disconnect between expectations and actual fund flows. XRP appears near balance in a long/short structure, but whale indicators on major exchanges consistently point bearish.

Major altcoins such as DOGE and BNB show retail longs, while whale positions sit in extreme bearish or bearish zones, tempering the durability of any upside. ZEC and BCH show relatively positive signals on some exchanges with partial fund inflows. Some alts like KLAY posted brief gains, but their influence appears limited in shifting the overall market mood.
