HKMA has granted stablecoin issuer licences under the Stablecoins Ordinance to Anchorpoint Financial and HSBC for issuing stablecoins in Hong Kong; the licences took effect on April 10. In a milestone development for the SAR, the two firms plan to launch and integrate stablecoin-related payment products over the coming months.
These licences authorize the issuers to operate stablecoins for local payments and to integrate these tokens into Hong Kong’s payment networks. The decision signals a clearer regulatory path for stablecoins and a momentum boost for the city’s fintech ecosystem. Over the next several months, the firms plan to roll out and integrate these stablecoin-related payment products under the new regime.
